Dave joined the JML staff in the early 70's. He had worked at WCCW Traverse City, a station where I did some
intern work while attending Traverse City High School.
Before the big format switch Dave and I often would do impromptu chats on the air. The Bay freeze
was an annual contest where we'd try to pick the date Little Traverse Bay would freeze over.
Dave moved from DJ to News and is heard in the 1976 sales demo tape.
One of my favorite commercials we did together was for Grulers Tack Shop. When the copy came out we
decided to take some liberties so I voiced a lame Lone Ranger, Dave provided the horse sound effects that
were mixed-in later. I guess the client liked it since no one asked us to re-cut the spot.
Later Dave left JML and I hadn't heard from him in a couple of decades. When contacted him in 2008
I learned he had joined the staff of WPBN-TV 7 in Traverse City. Later that year I learned he had been
diagnosed with cancer. He passed Thanksgiving Day 2008.
